Adult Care Homes (ACH)

​​​​GAST’s primary purpose is to provide free training, education and consultation to staff working in Adult Care Homes (ACHs) or Family Care Homes (F​CHs). For a listing and description of the currently available trainings, please click on GAST Training Catalog link.

GAST Goals:

  • Enhance the ACH/FCH staff’s understanding of residents with mental illness.
  • Enhance the skills and techniques of ACH/FCH staff in successfully caring for adults with mental illness.
  • Enhance the skills and techniques of ACH/FCH staff to prevent an escalation of behaviors that could place the adult in a psychiatric hospital.
  • Enhance the skills and techniques of caregivers, meeting the defined criteria, to prevent psychiatric hospitalization or successfully transition the person home after a psychiatric hospitalization. Important Information about Trainings offered by GAST:

  • Trainings are done onsite at the ACH or FCH by our professional staff.
  • Adult Care Home Continuing Education Hours (approved by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation) are awarded to those who attend the trainings.
  • Are usually one hour in length.
  • Can be customized to meet your home’s specific needs.  ​
