On February 9th a call came in on a suicide attempt. When we arrived on scene, the consumer had severe lacerations to her arm and body that was self inflicted. She had taken pills and tried to hang herself in the bath tub. She would not let anyone touch her or give us any information. I spoke with her friend and discovered her mom had been really sick and was possibly not going to live. As a CIT officer, I got down on her eye level and asked about her mom. After a little time had gone by she began to talk to me. We were able to get her to let EMS tend to her. I believe this situation was one in which the CIT training kept us from having to forcefully remove her from bath tub and potential other none helpful forms of treatment. The consumer was instead taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
