There is an Office of Consumer Affairs at the Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions Corporate office in Kannapolis, where the Director and Project Manager are located. Each Community Office also has an Office of Consumer Affairs staffed with two Consumer Affairs Specialists; one specializes in mental health and substance use/abuse and the other specializes in intellectual/developmental disabilities. Consumer Affairs staff are openly declared consumers and/or family members of individuals with mental health, intellectual/developmental disability and substance use/addiction service needs. Therefore, staff better understand the needs of those we support.
The Director of Consumer Affairs serves as a member of the LME/MCO (Managed Care Organization) Executive Operations Team. The Consumer Affairs Specialists, located at the Piedmont Community Office serve on Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions Cross Functional Teams and assist in the formulation of policy. They serve on multiple community committees; attend meetings of local advocacy organizations so as to respond to questions, concerns and identify issues in the service system which they communicate to Management.
The Consumer Affairs Specialists at the Piedmont COC serve as advocates, educators and liaisons for individuals with mental health, intellectual/developmental disability and substance use/addiction service needs in the Piedmont region of Cabarrus, Davidson, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. They respond to concerns and questions from consumers and family members and as liaisons for the Piedmont Consumer and Family Advisory Committee and Piedmont Client Rights Committee.
