Reply and Reach Out During Mental Health Awareness Month

Cardinal Innovations Healthcare — May 1, 2021 — 2 min read
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and everyone knows someone struggling with their mental health. How do you talk to them?

Is it OK to simply ask, “How are you?” Will talking about it make it worse? Should I share my own experience? Is it best to just say nothing?

It can be awkward.

Social media use has been up since the pandemic started. Sometimes, that can be a good thing. It provides a way to stay in touch with friends and family. But it also makes it hard to find out how someone is really feeling. It’s easier to hide the truth online.
Mental Health Screening

An online screening can help you figure out what you are feeling and how to find support.

That’s why we created our Reply and Reach Out campaign. We will be sharing content a few times a week throughout May to help you start a mental health conversation with someone—online or in person. We’ll also help you see the signs of some common mental health conditions. And we’ll provide useful information on a lot of topics, from the myths of bipolar disorder to how to improve your own mental health.

Look for short “conversation starters” to make talking about mental health a little more comfortable. We’ll include resources along the way, like **ASK, our mental health crisis line, and links to articles and blog posts.

We’re using Mental Health Awareness Month to help erase the stigma of mental health. Talking about it is a great place to start. A simple reply can go a long way. Reaching out doesn’t have to be hard.

We look forward to sharing our content throughout May. We hope you open a dialogue with someone who needs it.
