Trey Sutten, Interim Chief Executive Officer

trey-sutten-002.jpgTrey Sutten is the interim chief executive officer of Cardinal Innovations Healthcare. Sutten joined Cardinal Innovations in October 2017 as interim Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for all day-to-day management decisions, and for implementing Cardinal Innovations' long and short term plans. In his dual role as interim CFO, Sutten also oversees all financial reporting and operational activities of the organization.

Sutten’s 17-year career has focused on building teams and improving the operational and financial performance of organizations, including nearly a decade of advising or managing organizations facing challenging or changing environments. Prior to joining Cardinal Innovations, Sutten was the chief financial officer of North Carolina’s $14 billion Medicaid program. During his tenure, Sutten helped the organization deliver on its mission to improve healthcare for North Carolinians while remaining within its budget for three consecutive years. He focused on strengthening the organization’s relationship and credibility with legislators, the executive branch, and oversight bodies by providing reliable and timely financial information.

Sutten held leadership positions at Alvarez & Marsal, Fannie Mae, and PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was valued for his financial acumen and ability to drive improvements. As a consultant, some of the notable organizations he has worked with include Pfizer, AstraZeneca, BlueCross BlueShield, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Sutten earned his bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of Arizona, completed graduate coursework in leadership at the University of Virginia, and obtained a master's degree in business administration from Duke University with concentrations in health sector management and private equity.
