Therapeutic Foster Care Oregon (TFCO) Service Announcement

Cardinal Innovations Healthcare — September 21, 2021
Thompson Child & Family Focus, in partnership with Cardinal Innovations Healthcare, is expanding services to include Therapeutic Foster Care in Mecklenburg and Alamance Counties.

Our mission is to build a safety net for kids and families at risk of needing out-of-home residential care. This will allow them to stay in our community while giving them the skills needed to help them on the journey toward building better lives.

Treatment Foster Care Oregon (TFCO) brings over 30 years of experience serving youth with severe emotional and behavioral problems and helping them avoid the need for institutions. With evidence from eight randomized control trials, TFCO has demonstrated:
  • Reduced delinquency
  • Reduced violence
  • Fewer disruptions in placement
  • Increased attachment
  • Increased academic support
  • Lower cost to communities
The two main goals of TFCO are to create opportunities for youth to successfully live in a family setting and simultaneously help parents (or other long-term family resources) provide effective parenting.

Thompson is currently recruiting TFCO foster homes. Foster parents will receive 24/7 support and have the treatment come to their home. Typically, placements are 6 to 9 months in length. TFCO foster parents earn a higher rate than traditional foster parents. Anyone interested in becoming a TFCO  foster parent can contact Claudine Durkee, Director of TFCO, at cdurkee@thompsoncff.org or 704-654-2346.
