Chris Sherrill Receives the CIT 2020 Award for Instructor of the Year

Cardinal Innovations Healthcare — January 12, 2021
In recognition of his outstanding work training first responders, Community Engagement Specialist Chris Sherrill received the Instructor of the Year award during the Mecklenburg County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Community Awareness and Recognition Awards Banquet. This banquet served to honor exceptional CIT members and their efforts to improve the way first responders and civilians respond to mental health crises.

Sherrill was recognized for his "consistent effective participation and coaching in CIT role play trainings, a critical component of the CIT Training." As CIT Clinical Supervisor Ebony Rao presented the award to Sherrill, she spoke about his personal and military experience and how it's helped him connect with local law enforcement.

Mecklenburg's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a collaboration of community members that help first responders better serve those experiencing a mental health crisis. CIT programs train first responders on how to identify mental illness, de-escalate life-threatening situations, and provide community resource information.
