Cardinal Innovations to Participate in 2014 Charlotte Chamber Health Care Summit Friday

Cardinal Innovations Healthcare — August 14, 2014

CHARLOTTE, Aug. 14, 2014 – Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions President and CEO Pam Shipman will introduce speaker Dr. John Santopietro, the Chief Clinical Officer for Behavioral Health for Carolinas HealthCare System, during the Charlotte Chamber’s 2014 Health Care Summit Friday at the Westin Charlotte.
Under Shipman’s leadership, Cardinal Innovations manages more than $635 million in state- and federally-funded services for 2.4 million children and adults with mental health, intellectual and developmental disability, and substance use/addiction conditions in 16 North Carolina counties. The company is working to change the way behavioral health is delivered, making it more efficient and consumer-focused.

Shipman, who has been with Cardinal Innovations for 28 years and is sought after within the state and throughout the country to discuss Cardinal Innovations model for Medicaid Managed Care and the 1915(b) (c) waivers, said Cardinal Innovations is happy to serve as a silver sponsor for the summit, which aims to bring together local healthcare and business leaders and national industry experts. The summit’s theme this year is “Value Over Volume” and will focus on integrated healthcare and treating the whole person. Healthcare executives and providers will share what they are doing to create value, lower costs and generate the best patient outcomes in the U.S. In addition, a panel of healthcare leaders will discuss Charlotte as a healthcare destination.

Cardinal Innovations is at the forefront of Medicaid reform for behavioral healthcare in North Carolina and Shipman looks forward to being part of this important event. Cardinal Innovations leadership and providers from the company’s network of more than 1,100 providers will participate in the summit.

“We have been happy to collaborate with the Charlotte Chamber to bring together thought leaders in both behavioral and physical healthcare to discuss integrated, whole-person care, which is one of the most important yet challenging issues of the day,” said Steven Timmons, Cardinal Innovations’ Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, who served on the Charlotte Chamber Health Care Summit’s planning committee.

At 10:15 a.m., Shipman will introduce Santopietro, who will speak about “Behavioral Health in the Value Equation.” Santopietro has worked to transform the behavioral health system to improve care and the experience of care for patients suffering with mental illness. Board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Santopietro has held leadership positions in community mental health and public and private hospital systems and has taught psychiatric leadership. He is passionate about the need for clinical leadership in solving the substantial challenges that confront the country’s ailing system. He serves on the board of the American Association of Community Psychiatrists and is a member of the American College of Physician Executives. He has served as president of the Connecticut Psychiatric Society and as a gubernatorial appointee to the Connecticut mental health commissioner’s advisory board.
