Cardinal Innovations Plans Integrated Healthcare Fun Day

Cardinal Innovations Healthcare — October 13, 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Oct. 13, 2014 – Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions will celebrate the dedication of its new Mecklenburg Community Operations Center with an Integrated Healthcare Fun Day featuring free health screenings and activities for the whole family on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014.

The public is invited to the fun day event from noon to 4 p.m. at the Mecklenburg Community Operations Center, 1100 S. Tryon St., Charlotte. Cardinal Innovations will host the fun day in its Mecklenburg COC parking lot. A number of community organizations are participating including Discovery Place, Carolinas Healthcare System, TreesCharlotte, M3, Mecklenburg County Health Department, Mecklenburg County Mobile Crisis, DrumStrong, Charlotte Fire Department’s The Pink Lady, King of Pops, Best Impressions, along with entertainers including face painters, a stilt walker, a balloon twister and hoopers. Charlotte Center City Partners played a key role in helping Cardinal Innovations to plan the Integrated Healthcare Fun Day.

Prior to the fun day event, the media is invited to attend a dedication ceremony and tree planting with Cardinal Innovations President and Chief Executive Officer Pam Shipman along with elected officials and local business and community partners. This event is open to media but closed to the public.

Cardinal Innovations, a managed care organization serving 2.4 million people in 16 counties including Mecklenburg, moved into the Center City location in September, positioning itself in a central location to serve the community. Cardinal Innovations began oversight of services related to mental health, substance use disorder, and intellectual and developmental disabilities care on April 1, 2014.

In lieu of a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the new location, Cardinal Innovations partnered with TreesCharlotte to organize a tree planting, which demonstrates Cardinal Innovations’ commitment to being deeply rooted in the communities we serve. By planting a dogwood tree, which is symbolic to our company and also is North Carolina’s state flower, we’re able to support Charlotte’s effort to maintain its tree canopy.

TreesCharlotte Executive Director Dave Cable said this is the first time a company has approached them to do a tree planting as part of their grand opening.

Our fun day partners will help provide activities for the whole family. Discovery Place will bring its Open Environment Program, Diggin’ Fossils and Dynamic Dinos. This experiential activity includes hands-on experiments, demonstrations and self-guided learning. DrumStrong will provide musical entertainment.

Carolinas Healthcare System will provide diabetes, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) screenings and a hand washing activity. M3 will demonstrate their online screening tool. Attendees can take the screening on an iPad and find their M3 score, which indicates the person’s risk for depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder and PTSD. Cardinal Innovations can provide referral information if necessary and our Mobile Crisis team also will be available. The Mecklenburg Health Department will provide educational materials and promote an array of services it has available to the community. Mecklenburg County Mobile Crisis will educate attendees about where to turn in a crisis.

The Charlotte Fire Department’s The Pink Lady, a pink fire truck, will visit Cardinal Innovations fun day to promote breast cancer awareness and overall health and safety.

King of Pops will provide all-natural popsicles to attendees. Best Impressions will provide food including a popcorn station and a cotton candy station.
