Cardinal Innovations Opens Mecklenburg Community Operations Center Uptown

Cardinal Innovations Healthcare — September 10, 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 10, 2014 – Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions opened its new Mecklenburg Community Operations Center (COC) location in Uptown Charlotte today positioning the center in a central location to serve the community.

The 13,465-square-foot office space is located at 1100 S. Tryon St. St. 100 in Uptown Charlotte at the site formerly occupied by The Charlotte Business Journal. Cardinal Innovations, a managed care organization specializing in behavioral healthcare, signed a five-year lease at the new location, which will become the permanent Community Operations Center (COC) for Mecklenburg County. The new Mecklenburg COC office is conveniently located within a few blocks from the Lynx Charlotte Carson Station so it is accessible via light rail.
Cardinal Innovations began operating a temporary Mecklenburg COC at 10150 Mallard Creek Road when the oversight of services related to mental health, intellectual/developmental disabilities and substance use/addiction care transferred from MeckLINK Behavioral Healthcare to Cardinal Innovations on April 1, 2014.

“We're looking forward to relocating our COC to uptown Charlotte where we can be near major hospitals and healthcare providers, in addition to being in a visible location where our providers, consumers and their families can easily access us,” said Steven Timmons, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Cardinal Innovations.

With the addition of Mecklenburg County’s $200 million contract this year, Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions now manages $635 million in Medicaid services for 2.4 million children and adults with mental health, intellectual and developmental disability, and substance use/addiction conditions in multiple counties throughout North Carolina. The COCs create a strong local presence in each service area to provide communities served by Cardinal Innovations with direct and timely access to staff and resources.

The Cardinal Innovations model is unique because consumers and family members in the communities where the COCs are located work closely with Cardinal Innovations’ staff. Consumers and families are part of the Community Partners Team and serve as advocates, educators, and collaborators with individuals and families with disabilities, as well as local advocacy groups. Other services offered through the COCs include:
  • Community Relations staff works closely with key community agencies, schools and other entities.
  • Provider Relations staff offers information and support to the providers enrolled in Cardinal Innovations’ provider network.
  • Quality Management staff focus on the assurance of quality services for consumers through monitoring, compliance audits and complaint investigations.
  • Care Coordination teams also work in the COCs with one team serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the other serving people with mental health and substance use/addiction conditions. Care Coordinators work with individuals, connecting them to the services they need, and ensuring that the service provided fits with the individual’s service plan.
The Mecklenburg COC staff will celebrate the opening of the new location with the Integrated Healthcare Family Fun Day event planned for Oct. 25. The event will be outdoors from noon to 4 p.m. at the new location, 1100 S. Tryon St. Ste. 100 in the rear of the building.
