Charlotte, NC, May 9, 2014 – Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions has appointed Laurie Whitson as the new Assistant Director for the Mecklenburg Community Operations Center (COC). In this role, Laurie will serve the community through her experience in strength-based care, cultural competency and building solid partnerships. Prior to this role, she served as Corporate System of Care Manager, bringing both passion and enthusiasm for System of Care, Trauma Informed Care and incorporation of Evidenced Based Practices.

“Laurie brings a wealth of knowledge, both from a clinical and leadership perspective. She embraces a holistic viewpoint and has expertise in understanding and strengthening community systems. Having already formed essential relationships with key stakeholders in Mecklenburg County, Laurie is poised to foster further collaboration that will build upon the existing community network that is vital to the individuals we support,” said Regional Director of Mecklenburg’s COC Nicole P. McKinney, Ph.D.

Before returning to Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions in 2010, Laurie worked in Mecklenburg County where she was a Targeted Case Management Manager, Administrative Supervisor of Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care and System of Care Liaison. This experience offered her the opportunity to partner with other community members to support positive outcomes for youth and family. She worked closely with MeckCARES to shape fidelity of wraparound services in Child and Family Teams, provide training through Mecklenburg County Training Institute, and was a champion to ensure that the voices of youth and families were heard within the system. Whitson is also a Person Centered Trainer through the Learning Community, focusing on people who have lost or may lose positive control because of society’s response to the presence of a disability.

Whitson received her master’s degree in Social Work from Aurora University in Illinois and a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Northeastern Illinois University. She is also a member of the National Association of Social Work.
