Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions Appoints Associate General Counsel

Kannapolis, NC, May 5, 2014 – Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions has appointed Taunula Grayson Associate General Counsel. She will be responsible for legal and business issues associated with Cardinal Innovations’ provider network.

Taunula has been a member of the Cardinal Innovations management team since May 2012. She began her career at Cardinal Innovations as the Corporate Regional Network Manager and subsequently served as the Director of Network Operations.

Her tenure as Regional Network Manager and Director of Network Operations has provided her with critical experience that will enable her to best represent the company in network related transactions and legal matters,“ said Cardinal Innovations General Counsel Richard Topping.

Prior to joining Cardinal Innovations, Taunula worked as a legal consultant for Genesis Eye Center where she implemented a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance program, educated and trained the employees about HIPPA and conducted internal audits to ensure compliance. She took the lead role in identifying practice modifications while considering the financial resources of the business. Taunula was also responsible for drafting employment and independent contractor agreements for the potential hiring of other health care providers in the practice.

Taunula’s previous legal practice was in civil litigation, with an emphasis on tort cases. Her work included researching and analyzing claims; investigating liability, damages and coverage issues; case management and strategic planning; negotiating settlements; and other pre-trial case development activities.

Taunula is also a Pharmacist. She has worked in both retail and hospital settings. As a hospital pharmacist, she played a supervisory role; directing the activities of the pharmacy, making critical and urgent decisions in response to hospital codes, consulting physicians, nurses and other clinical staff on medication related issues such as dosing, compatibility and adverse reactions. She ensured that patient care was coordinated across all departments in order to promote the most appropriate therapies.

Taunula earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Dillard University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Taunula has served as a Student Defense Project Volunteer Attorney and Custody Advocacy Team Volunteer Attorney for Council for Children’s Rights. In those roles, Taunula advocated for the rights of students at due process hearings and before the Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education. Due to her skills and passion for children, she was appointed as a guardian ad litem in other cases.

Taunula is also a sustainer of the Junior League of Charlotte where she has worked to improve the lives of children and families in the community by effective action and leadership. She has provided services to Alexander Youth Network, Florence Crittenton, The Relatives, Levine Children's Hospital, Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital, Girls on the Run, Parent University, Healthy Children Initiative and numerous other non-profit organizations.
