Greg Gertz

Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer
Greg Gertz is the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for Cardinal Innovations Healthcare. In this role, he leads the Compliance, Ethics, Privacy, Internal Audit, Risk Management, and Program Integrity programs, and works to ensure all programs are reasonably designed, continuously effective, and optimized.  He advises management, educates the workforce on compliance and privacy, and works in concert with the leadership team to identify, manage and control risks.  If a problem is detected, he works with legal counsel and management to provide oversight and guidance on response and corrective action.
 
Gertz has 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, and has led compliance and privacy for both insurer and provider organizations.  He most recently served as Director of Ethics & Compliance for Centene Corporation, the nation’s largest Medicaid Managed Care Organization. In this role, He provided critical compliance management and oversight support for several Medicaid health plans before transitioning to Envolve Health, Centene’s Specialty Solutions division offering comprehensive programs and services. 
 
Following passage of the Affordable Care Act he joined multi-specialty provider Cornerstone Healthcare, a leader in value-based care.  As the leader of Compliance, Privacy and Patient Safety, he worked lockstep with physician leaders and all stakeholders to promote best practices and accountability in ethics, compliance, privacy and security.
 
After receiving a Masters in Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy & Administration from University of North Carolina’s Gillings School of Global Public Health, Gertz began his career in healthcare with UnitedHealthcare of North Carolina (UHC). As UHC’s first Director of Compliance, he designed and implemented a new Compliance Program.  
 
A native of Minnesota, Gertz attended the University of Minnesota as an undergraduate.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, graduating cum laude, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.  Gertz then earned a Juris Doctorate degree at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, and worked for the Minnesota State Courts as a Judicial Staff Attorney. 

He is an active member of the Health Care Compliance Association, and is certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC). He holds law licenses in North Carolina, Georgia, and Minnesota; is a member of the health law sections of the North Carolina and the Georgia State Bar Association; and is a member of the NC Society of Healthcare Attorneys.   

Gertz enjoys running and reading.  He and his wife have two daughters in college and one son in high school.
