Dr. Pamela Wright-Etter

Dr. Pamela Wright-Etter is Vice President of Medical Services for Cardinal Innovations Healthcare. She is a psychiatrist based in Charlotte, N.C., who has been in practice for over 28 years.

Board certified in Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Wright-Etter has been in private practice as president and owner of N.C. Psychiatric Associates since July 1990. Her work involves offering second opinions for diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric illness, consulting in quality improvement, forensic assessments, and military assessments.

Wright-Etter has been a Clinical Professor of Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine at the University of South Carolina since 1997, teaching fellows in Forensic Psychiatry. Since 2013, she has also served as Medical Director/consultant with TranscendED, providing consultation as part of a leadership team of partial hospitalization and residential treatment of eating disorders.

Since 1999, Wright-Etter has provided litigation assistance, focusing her expertise on cases involving medical malpractice, ADA (employment law), EEOC and sexual harassment. She has assessed both adults and adolescents on their competency to stand trial and evaluated individuals for insanity defense.

Wright-Etter has served on multiple committees and currently is a member of the Medical Education International (MEI), special advisor for psychiatry, leading international psychiatry training trips and part of advisory council to MEI.

She is the recipient of several awards including the 2014 Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In 2008, she was recognized as the 2008 Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and also received the The Barzani Charity Foundation Award for Humanitarian Service to the Iraqi Kurdish People. In 2001, she was given the American Psychiatric Association Profiles in Courage Award.

A national speaker, Wright has articles in numerous publications and also continues to be a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, North Carolina Psychiatric Association (NCPA) and American Psychiatric Association-Distinguished Life Fellow.

Wright-Etter received her medical degree from the The Medical College of Ohio at Toledo in 1982. She has a Masters of Public Healthcare Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill that she received in 2012. Prior to earning her medical degree, Wright-Etter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Wright State University in 1978. She also has an associate’s degree in nursing from Kettering College of Medical Arts.
