Dr. Richard Blanks


Dr. Richard C. Blanks was appointed to the Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Board of Directors in 2018.
He is a Harvard-trained, board-certified adult and forensic psychiatrist as well as a licensed attorney. He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he is an assistant professor.

Dr. Blanks is also the Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Consultants, a program in the department that provides services in civil, criminal, and consultative forensic psychiatry. He is nationally recognized for conducting independent psychiatric evaluations and reports in state and federal courts. He also teaches residents and medical students about all aspects of forensic psychiatry, including serving as an expert witness.

In addition to his clinical and teaching activities, he continues to participate in several research projects and contributes publications and presentations in both academic and legal settings. His professional memberships and service include the NC Psychiatric Association, the Forsyth County Bar Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, the Medical Society of the District of Columbia, the American Psychiatric Association, and the North Carolina State Bar.

Dr. Blanks is a native of North Carolina and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of NC at Chapel Hill; his Juris Doctorate degree from Campbell University School of Law in Buies Creek, NC; and his M.D degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science, Washington, D.C.

He currently lives and works in Forsyth County.
